Ball & Chain "Lowestoft" Winemaker Long Lunch — Budburst Wine Collective

The Lowestoft Vineyard was planted in 1986 by the then owner Bernard McKay at the request of his neighbour Claudio Alcorso of Moorilla Estate. 3ha was of Pinot Noir was planted from cuttings taken from Morrilla Estate and then used to blend in with Moorilla Wines. When Moorilla was sold, Fred Peacock of Bream Creek would purchase grapes to produce his Reserve Pinot Noir and some was also sold to Treasury Wine Estate.

The Fogarty Family purchased the vineyard in 2019 and had almost immediate success with the La Maison Pinot Noir winning best Pinot Noir for 3 consecutive years, at the 2021, 2022 & 2023 Melbourne Wine Shows and also Best Pinot Noir at the 2022 National Wine Show. Last year it was topped off, by winning Australia’s most prestigious wine Trophy, the Jimmy Watson, for the best one year old red wine in the Melbourne Show. Tyson Stelzer has described the Lowestoft Pinot Noir as “The most sublime Australian Pinot Noir”
