This wine is an innovative and bold move by LR. Its a brand new release that has replaced the ultra popular Brut Premier which was first released in 1986. Champagne is one of the coolest places to make wine in the world, but its been warming up and the fruit used to make wine back in the 80s was quite different to the riper fruit over recent years has meant that the blending and creating of the NV Champagne is now quite different from before.
To reflect this change they will now number each Cuvee. 243 means it's the 243rd blend created by the house and the basis of the blend comes predominantly from the 2018 Vintage which contributes 56% with the remainder made up of reserve wines from 2009, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016. Blend 244 will then be made up predominantly from 2019 vintage.
Whereby previous philosophies of making NV Champagne has been on consistency in flavour year in year out, this new approach by LR is focused on maintaing freshness and tension based on the fruit provided which means that there will be variations between Cuvees each year, reflecting the vintage of the base wine.
