Pooley Estate Syrah 2023
Pooley Estate Syrah 2023 is a brand new release and is another terrific example of the ever growing number of Tasmanian cool-climate Syrah/Shiraz. This wine opens with an enticing bouquet of blackberries, violets, and white pepper, with underlying hints of smoked meat and cedar from French oak aging. On the palate, it offers a vibrant and concentrated profile, balancing ripe red cherry fruit flavors with savory notes of red bell peppers and thyme. The wine's fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity provide a youthful and tightly bound structure, leading to a long, lingering finish that will see flavours to continue to integrated with additional time in the cellar. For current consumption and food matching, the Pooley Estate Syrah has versatility and would pair beautifully with grilled meats, hearty stews, or aged cheeses.

About Pooley Wines
Pooley Wines was first established in 1985 when Denis and Margaret Pooley planted vines on the banks of the Coal River in southern Tasmania. With seven rows of Pinot Noir and ten rows of Riesling. With the help of their son and grandchildren, three generations of the Pooley family have continued to bring meticulous care to their Cooinda Vale vineyard. In 1989, Cooinda Vale’s unique microclimate and terroir yielded its first vintage.
In 2003, John Pooley and his wife Libby bought Belmont, a heritage-listed Georgian home on the outskirts of Richmond. Pooley Wines expanded their estate and established a second vineyard, Butcher’s Hill, with its first vintage produced in 2007.
Denis passed away in 1994 and until the passing of Margaret Pooley in 2010, three generations of the Pooley family were working in the vineyards with John’s son, Matthew Pooley, taking on the responsibility as Viticulturist. With Margaret’s granddaughter, Anna Pooley returning to the family business in 2013, Pooley was made entirely by family hands from this point onward.
"The trajectory of ascension of their wines has been nothing short of breathtaking, with quality rising emphatically with every season..." James Halliday Wine Companion, Winery of The Year 2023
