What is a Grower Champagne?

Boll & Cie is a Grower Champagne that I really enjoyed at the Tyson Stelzer Taste Champagne in Sydney a couple of months ago. The difference between a Champagne House and a Grower Champagne is that, Champagne Houses supplement their own vineyards by purchasing fruit from Grape Growers because they need to produce millions of bottles to supply their world wide demand. Grower Champagnes are much smaller and boutique in comparison and they control the whole process from the Vine to bottle. Boll & Cie was one of the feature wines at our recent Champagne Day tasting.
