Tasmania’s Ed Carr has once again been named Sparkling Winemaker of the Year at the International Wine Challenge, taking the title for the second time after first winning it in 2024. Very significantly also, was his 2024 award, where he became the first winemaker outside of the Champagne Region to be honoured with the title.
It’s another extraordinary result for the man who has spent more than 30 years promoting Tasmania as a region, that can produce sparkling wines to stand as equals, amongst the best producers in Champagne.
And it wasn’t the only result for House of Arras.
🥂 House of Arras Grand Vintage 2017 scored 96 points and took home the Australian Sparkling Trophy at the same awards.
It comes not long after House of Arras was named 2027 Halliday Winery of the Year — the first dedicated sparkling producer to receive the honour.
For Tasmania, these results are significant. Premium Tasmanian sparkling is no longer simply being talked about as an Australian alternative to Champagne. Wines like Arras are increasingly establishing their own reputation on the international stage.
🍾The 2017 Grand Vintage is yet to hit the shelves, but if you want to see what Ed Carr's winemaking is all about, the Arras Grand Vintage 2015 is itself one of Australia's most highly awarded sparkling wines — including Best Wine of Show at the 2024 Australian Sparkling Wine Show and 97 points/Platinum at Decanter.
Congratulations Ed Carr and the House of Arras team. Another remarkable result for Tasmanian wine.
