Hahndorf Hill Gruner Veltliner 2024
The Hahndorf Hill 'Gru' Grüner Veltliner 2024 is a beautifully expressive and textural white wine, showcasing the vibrant fruit and savoury complexity that make this Austrian variety such a wonderful food companion.
The wine opens with fragrant aromas of nectarine, lime zest and delicate chamomile, leading into a generous mid-palate filled with yellow peach, grapefruit, hints of guava and subtle herbal spice. There's a lovely richness and texture to the wine, beautifully balanced by juicy, refreshing acidity. The finish is long and flavoursome, with lingering citrus, gentle white pepper and a savoury mineral edge.
An exceptionally versatile food wine, with enough texture and flavour to complement everything from seafood and Asian cuisine to white meats and vegetarian dishes.
Winemaking: Three separately harvested parcels are fermented using different techniques to build complexity. One is cool-fermented in stainless steel to preserve aromatics, another undergoes wild fermentation with time in seasoned oak, while the third is fermented at warmer temperatures to develop savoury characters. One-third of the final blend spends four months in old oak vessels, adding texture without overwhelming the fruit.
Food Match: Cantonese-style steamed snapper with ginger and spring onions, Vietnamese lemongrass chicken, vegetable and ginger stir-fry, or pork schnitzel with lemon.
Region: Adelaide Hills, South Australia
