Henskens Rankin Blanc de Blanc 2019
Henskens Rankin Blanc de Blancs 2019
Region: Coal River Valley, Tasmania
Description:
An exceptional single-vineyard Tasmanian Blanc de Blancs showcasing the purity, elegance and remarkable complexity of cool-climate Chardonnay. The palate opens with vibrant lime zest, crisp green apple, white peach and delicate citrus blossom. The mid-palate is beautifully textured and layered, revealing lemon curd, freshly baked pastries, toasted almonds, shortbread and subtle creamy notes developed through extended ageing on yeast lees. A fine, persistent bead and wonderfully precise mineral acidity carry the wine through to a long, dry and expansive finish, with lingering hints of flint, crushed oyster shell and sea spray.
Winemaking:
Crafted from 100% hand-harvested Chardonnay grown at the Tashinga Vineyard on the slopes of Mount Rumney in Tasmania's Coal River Valley. The fruit was whole-bunch pressed and underwent spontaneous fermentation in oak barriques before secondary fermentation in bottle using reserved grape juice. Malolactic fermentation was prevented to retain freshness and natural acidity. The wine spent six years on yeast lees before disgorgement in July–August 2025, with a very low dosage of just 2g/L. Only 900 individually numbered bottles were produced. Vegan-friendly.
Food Match:
Freshly shucked oysters, seared scallops with lemon butter, grilled Tasmanian abalone, lobster or crayfish, sashimi and delicate white fish dishes.
