The Decades Pinot Noir 2025 has announced itself in remarkable fashion, taking out the Trophy for Best Pinot Noir at the 2026 Australian Pinot Noir Challenge, finishing on top of 319 Pinot Noirs from 20 Australian wine regions.

From the established Decades vineyard at Tea Tree in Tasmania's Coal River Valley, this is a Pinot Noir built around fragrance, purity and fine structure. Bright red cherry and raspberry fruit lead the way, with floral notes, subtle spice and savoury complexity developing through the palate. Fresh acidity and fine, supple tannins provide shape and precision, carrying the wine through to a long, poised finish.

There's plenty of detail here, but also a lovely sense of restraint — a Pinot Noir that favours balance, vineyard expression and elegance rather than weight or excessive oak.

Decades is the project of longtime friends Steve Flamsteed and Brad Rogers, who purchased their Coal River Valley property in 2022. The original vineyard was planted in 1990 and today provides the foundation for their Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Winemaking

Made from Pinot Noir grown on the Decades vineyard at Tea Tree in the Coal River Valley. The combination of Tasmania's cool climate and established vines provides the foundation for a wine focused on fragrance, freshness and fine structure.

The wine is made by Steve Flamsteed, with the Decades philosophy centred on expressing the vineyard with clarity and minimal excess.

Food Match

Beautiful with roast duck, mushroom risotto or lamb loin. Also try it with roast pork, grilled salmon, wild mushroom pasta or roasted root vegetables — dishes that work particularly well with Pinot Noir's bright red fruit, savoury complexity and fine tannins.
